Sally Basser

Independent Director

Sally Basser joined the SaCSA Board on 22 March 2024 and is Chair of the SaCSA Arts SWAG.

Sally is an experienced non-executive director and consultant with a strong background in public policy, arts and cultural development, and not-for-profit governance.

She currently serves on the boards of the Art Gallery of Ballarat, the Bell Shakespeare Company, the Australian Youth Orchestra, the Australian National Academy of Music, and the Australian Press Council.

Previously, Sally led the Commonwealth Office for the Arts, where she plated a key role in shaping and supporting Australia’s arts and cultural landscape, including the development of the 2013 National Cultural Policy – Creative Australia. She now specialises in working with small to medium not-for-profit organisations on governance, strategy, and leadership- helping them strengthen their capabilities and achieve meaningful impact. 

Sally brings a deep understanding of the arts and cultural sectors from a range of perspectives, including policy and program delivery, arts training and workforce development, evidence-based advocacy, arts and education, regional arts, audience development, community engagement, Indigenous arts and languages, arts and tourism, and arts and disability. 

She holds a Bachelor of Social Work, a Master of Public Administration, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
