Overview
Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) is the Jobs and Skills Council representing the Arts, Personal Services, Retail, Tourism & Hospitality industries. Working within a tripartite approach, SaCSA is the critical link between industry stakeholders, government and unions. We aim to provide a stronger, more strategic voice in ensuring Australia’s Vocational Education and Training sector delivers stronger outcomes for employers, workers, learners, trainers and educators.
As the leader in workforce development initiatives for our industries, SaCSA collaborates with industry to identify and articulate current and future employment trends and develops solutions that best serve those needs.
SaCSA’s Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and governance oversight, guiding organisational direction and supporting the achievement of SaCSA’s strategic goals. Learn more about our Board of Directors here.
Nominations are now open for the Independent, Non-Executive Director (Hospitality sector) position and will close on 12 June 2026. The incumbent Independent Director Lynda Ugarte-Carral, is standing for re-election to this position.
Eligibility Criteria
Under SaCSA’s Constitution, there are a number of strict eligibility criteria for appointment as an Independent, Non-Executive Director, as set out below.
You are not eligible to be nominated or serve on SaCSA’s Board if you hold an Officer or Director position with any of the following entity types:
- a Registered Training Organisation;
- a Group Training Organisation;
- an Employment Service Provider; or
- an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider.
In addition, you are not be eligible to be nominated or to serve as an Independent Director if you are employed by, or hold an Officer or Director position with, an organisation that is an Employee Voting Member or Employer Voting Member of SaCSA.

Position Description
Serving on the SaCSA Board of Directors requires a meaningful time commitment of at least three days per quarter. This includes attending regular Board meetings, contributing to governance and oversight activities, participating in SaCSA’s annual strategy session, and contributing to key discussions and follow-up actions on matters that impact SaCSA, its mission and strategic objectives.
In addition, Non-Executive Directors may be called upon to participate in the work of SaCSA’s Board Committees and to chair the Advisory Committees and sub-groups.
