Project Overview
In May 2024, SaCSA identified a large number of outdated units of competency within the CUA Creative Arts and Culture Training Package. Our review found 174 superseded units of competency and 9 deleted units still embedded in 45 current qualifications. These outdated units risked reducing the relevance, quality and compliance of nationally recognised training in the Arts.
SaCSA conducted an in-depth audit of all superseded units of competency, analysed changes to elements, performance criteria and assessment conditions, and consulted extensively with industry via webinars and surveys.
The outcomes of this Activity Project include:
- 43 CUA qualifications updated
- 26 received a major update
- 17 received a minor update
For equivalent superseded units, we replaced them with the latest versions. For non-equivalent or deleted units, we worked with stakeholders to identify the most appropriate replacements. Two qualifications – CUA30320 Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching and CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media – were identified as requiring further development and will be addressed in separate projects.
All changes have been endorsed by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) and Skills Ministers.
These updates ensure that Australia’s creative workforce continues to have access to high-quality, contemporary training that supports strong career pathways and meets the evolving needs of the sector.
Consultation
A number of consultation opportunities were available as part of this project throughout November and December 2024.These included a Broadcast Session on 6 November 2024 to confirm suitable replacement units and discuss the relevance of deleted content, as well as a stakeholder survey that closed on 4 December 2024 to gather detailed feedback on the proposed changes.
As a result of this consultation, the CUA30325 Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching and CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media will not be updated under this project and will instead be proposed to DEWR as separate Activity Projects for further review.

Implementation Information
Transition Timelines
Training providers may continue to enrol learners into the superseded training products until the transition end date of 13 August 2026. Any students that have been enrolled before the transition end date must have their training and assessment completed in a timely manner. More information is available on the Australian Skills Quality Authority’s website: How to transition | Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)
Equivalent Training Products
Providers may commence enrolments into the updated training products as soon as they are released on 13 August 2025.
Not Equivalent Training Products
Providers may commence enrolments into the updated training product once it has been added to their scope of registration. View the Australian Skills Quality Authority’s guidance on changes to scope of registration, or contact your state based regulator.
General Implementation Recommendations
The transition period for this update is 12 months.
SaCSA recommends that training providers review their Scope of Registration, develop a transition plan for the updated training product, review and update their Training and Assessment Strategy and Learning and Assessment Resources and communicate with their students and key stakeholders regarding the changes.
For further information about when training products change, or compliance support, visit the Australian Skills Quality Authority website.
