Project Overview

The floristry industry has transformed significantly in recent years. Traditional bricks and mortar stores continue to play a key role, but new business models including online floristry, freelancing, and event-based services are reshaping the sector. Meanwhile, trends such as digital retailing, environmental sustainability, product diversification, and new distribution methods are creating demand for a broader, more contemporary skill set.

To meet the evolving needs of the floristry industry and enhance skills development in traditional floristry methods, we are reviewing and updating  the SFL30115 Certificate III in Floristry qualification.

Employment in floristry is projected to grow steadily over the next decade, and the market for online and traditional flower retailing is strong. Feedback from employers, educators, and industry bodies confirms strong support for changes that reflect the realities of the sector. Updating the qualification now will help ensure that graduates are competitive, confident and prepared for the future of the floristry industry.

This project will:

Review the selection of core and elective Units of Competency (UoC) to reflect the evolving floristry business models and skills required to transition between the different business types

Design a qualification pathway that aligns with career progression and reflects the appropriate Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) levels

Create a more streamlined approach to foundational practical skills to ensure individuals are job ready with skills that reflect modern floristry practices

Revise and enhance the knowledge content to address gaps in the current training product

Develop a qualification structure that considers the recommendations from our Qualification Reform Project

Develop a contextualisation and mapping guide that supports training providers to develop and deliver qualifications that meet industry knowledge and skills needs

Align qualification outcomes with current and emerging industry needs.
