Service Skills Portability and Pathways (AQF Level 2)
We're improving skills portability at Certificate II to support workforce mobility across the service industries.
Project Overview
Many entry-level qualifications across the service industries teach similar core skills, from communication and teamwork to customer service and safety. Yet, when learners move between industries including Personal Services, Retail, Tourism and Hospitality, these transferable skills are not always recognised due to differences in industry specific application. This often requires relearning the same core skills in a different setting, unnecessary learning duplication, slowing career progression and limiting workforce mobility across the services sector.
The Service Skills Portability & Pathways Project is tackling this challenge head-on. Building on insights from SaCSA’s Shaping Service Skills: A Skills Pathway and Qualification Reform Project, this initiative is designing and testing a conceptual Certificate II framework that recognises the shared foundation of service skills across multiple industries.
Ultimately, this project aims to make it easier for learners to move between industries, gain credit for the knowledge and skills they have and access new opportunities for growth.
Improving the portability of service skills is critical to building a flexible, future-ready workforce, one that can adapt quickly, respond to changing industry needs, and continue delivering excellent service wherever their career takes them.
